My Nanna - the late Irene Heany - worked hard as a cleaner for many years at Her Maj. As a child, my Mum and Aunt shared many stories that Nan had told them about the amazing performers who graciously signed autographs and snuck them into the theatre. Whilst from a very poor background, they were lucky enough to have had the opportunity to experience the culture and magic of musical theatre in such a beautiful and treasured theatre. Please save Her Maj.

As a performer going by Renee Burleigh I started my love for the stage at Her Maj. Each year when the RSSS competition came to a close, I would start to count down the days until the next year's competition would start. My childhood was spent looking forward to getting back on this glorious stage. The rich history of this theatre is the perfect example of how I would love every theatre to be. It is absolutely beautiful and majestic, filled with character and spirit. Still to this day after becoming a professional performer, performing in countless musicals around the world, and now as a manager representing Australia's best performers, I fell in love with it all 30 years ago and my heart is still in the soul of Her Maj.

Like so many others, I grew up performing on this stage. I have been involved in multiple competitions and performances at this theatre every single year of my life from the age of five. I spent the next 15 years of my life performing at this beautiful theatre, and it never became any less magical to me. I always felt the same excitement walking into my dressing room or walking out onto stage. It is my favourite place in Ballarat. Without this theatre, I wouldn't be studying my current degree - a Bachelor of Music Theatre at Federation University. This theatre has inspired me to spend the rest of my life in a theatre. If I never had another opportunity to perform on the Her Maj stage, I would be heartbroken. It is my dream to come back and perform at my favourite theatre as a professional. It saddens me that the young performers of Ballarat aren't getting the same experience of this beautiful theatre that I had as a young child. Please keep this beautiful venue alive.

Many of my earliest performances took place at Her Majesty's Theatre Ballarat but even before then, I had the chance to discover a myriad of musical worlds without having to leave my home town. These experiences inspired me to make a career in the arts, and without them I wouldn't be nearly the artist I am today. Ballarat is a city known for its heritage buildings, with Her Majesty’s being one of the most significant. If you’ve grown up in Ballarat (or ballet-rat!) the chances are at some stage you’ve had the chance to either stand on its magnificent stage, or watch a performance there. It’s a huge part of the city’s culture and it’s a place that is so dear, to so many. It simply must be saved.

Her Majesty’s Theatre and the Royal South Street Society were a beautiful and integral part of my childhood, and my children’s childhoods. Please watch the campaign video and help continue to keep this beautiful theatre in our lives, and help keep performing arts and music in our state alive. Helping Her Maj will also help the beautiful city of Ballarat.

We need to preserve this majestic building because when it's gone, it's gone forever. Ballarat's history needs to be looked after.

Her Maj has been such a huge part of not only my upbringing but also many people over many generations. From ballet concerts as a three year old, competing on stage in Royal South Street for over 10 years, playing solo and being a part of productions in the orchestra pit, Her Maj has been such an amazing place for the arts to shine (amateur or professional) and we in Ballarat are so lucky to have such a historic, beautiful theatre. Performers and audiences locally, nationally and internationally are positively brought together. There's just something special about being in an old theatre; something newer theatres just cannot provide. As a performer, the feeling of walking on the stage of Her Maj has unique vibes. Her Maj is a very iconic building that draws people in, and in turn supports Ballarat's economy. The thought of never going back in Her Maj is something that makes me feel incredibly sad. So so so many memories I and many others will cherish forever. This would be such a huge loss for a town known for its heritage.

I am from Adelaide but love Ballarat more than anything. Her Maj has a place in my heart because that’s where Mum had a great night with the late Jon English (her hero). Also it’s another beautiful piece of Ballarat’s history.

It is one of my favourite Grand Victorian Theatres in the country. It has that old historic feeling to it which many new theatres simply cannot replicate. The venue is always on my radar when planning my tours and I always look forward to performing there every time. It invokes a certain spirit that very few theatres can generate which is why I chose to film my second DVD there ‘Whatever Comes Next’.
