Did you know Her Majesty’s Theatre is mainland Australia’s best preserved and oldest continuously operating theatre?

In fact, it was built in 1875 – making it the most intact of only four surviving nineteenth-century public theatres in Australia.

Each year more than 75,000 patrons are entertained by more than 15,000 performers who take to its stage.

It has become a much-loved venue which has played host to some of the world’s best performers while holding a special place in the heart of generations of local residents and performers.

Showing your support through our tally will help us prove just how important Her Majesty’s Ballarat is to us all, and increase our chances of getting the funding we so urgently need to save the theatre.

Parts of the structure of the building are potentially unsafe and do not meet current standards.

$15 million is needed for urgent works to bring Her Majesty’s Theatre Ballarat up to safe and professional standard so this ageing asset can continue to operate as the performing arts centre at the cultural heart of Ballarat and the wider region for another century.

So many special memories of competing at calisthenics competitions at Her Majesty’s for nearly 15 years. I always hoped I would get to create new memories of trips to ballarat with my daughter and hope I still can

I travel from Nhill to see performances at this beautiful old theatre. She is a part of history which needs to be preserved.

I moved to the country a few years ago and found what I missed most from my city days was live theatre. I was delighted to find Her Majesty's when Phantom of the Opera was staged. It was worth the hour drive from my small town. I've been to several shows since and, apart from the performance, I am so impressed by the old-world charm of the building. It lends a wonderful atmosphere to the night. It would be a great pity to lose this grand old lady. It's part of Ballarat's history and should be preserved.

Competitions from primary school, singing in the choir or verse speaking - the excitement of being in such a beautiful old theatre is a memory all kids should get the opportunity to make.

Even before I made my move to Ballarat I had been to see my niece perform at Her Majesty's theatre as part of a wonderful evening, celebrating dance and the performing arts, across all ages. In my first week of living in Ballarat, I had tickets to see The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, with friends from Melbourne, who were informed about its history by the knowledgeable ushers during intermission. I was so proud to show off my new home's iconic building, which brings such a wonderful sense of joy - just being seated within her decorative, glorious walls knowing that you are part of a long history of theatre goers. A history that not only invites professional performers across the wider range of the performing arts but also the local community to strut the stage.

Her Majesty’s must be saved for future generations. It has been a part of my life from rock concerts in ‘70s, performing and working on musicals for both Lyric Theatre Company and BLOC, to many plays, operas, ballets and other concerts in the subscription series. Also, there are people you meet and the friends meet along the way.

This glorious Ballarat institution needs to be preserved for our future generations. It is an absolute gem.

My Nan, Mum and I have all performed on this stage and I would love for my future children to do the same. It would be so heartbreaking to see it go.

I have performed on Her Majesty’s stage for over 20 years with calisthenics. There is something so magical when performing on this stage and there is such an elegance and beauty in the theatre. Coming to Ballarat every year to perform on this stage is the highlight of my calisthenics year and I hope to be able to get back on the stage at Her Majesty’s one more time before I retire.

Wow - what can I say about Her Maj (which is generally my second home for the month of October)? I have been coming to Her Majesty's Theatre since I was one month old through my love of calisthenics and the RSSS comps. In that time I’ve been everywhere in the theatre and seen everything... I’ve been an audience member every year of my life (except the year we went to Civic Hall) for RSSS and local theatre shows, I’ve been a performer for 18 years for both school and calisthenics, front of house volunteer at both RSSS comps and local theatre shows, back stage volunteer, presenter of awards, teacher doing school concerts, had photos taken when I was a bridesmaid and been on tour, just to name a few. My fondest memories are coming to RSSS comps with my family each year and last year I was able to bring my baby daughter who was two months old. I loved performing on the awesome stage - especially remember winning, I’ve loved standing on the stage presenting an award in memory of my nan, I have loved seeing how many steps I can take following the green line to and... I loved performing on the awesome stage - especially remember winning, I’ve loved standing on the stage presenting an award in memory of my nan, I have loved seeing how many steps I can take following the green line to and from backstage to front of house each year, and I remember the day I was an audience member on the Champ senior day and Ballarat had an awful storm which resulted in the theatre leaking. The entire theatre had to be evacuated on the busiest day, when the theatre was fully booked out.

Her Maj is a second home to me! I love this theatre! It needs to be saved so our future generations can continue to marvel at the performances but also marvel at the architecture.
